Pitso Mosimane delighted to have Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates join Mamelodi Sundowns in CAF club competitions

Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane has expressed his joy at having Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs join them on the continent and tipped Bidvest Wits for the Absa Premiership title.

Sundowns are currently competing in their fifth consecutive CAF Champions League campaign since 2015, and have this year been joined by their fellow PSL giants.

Downs and Pirates have both qualified for the Champions League group stages, while Chiefs are one step away from reaching the Confederation Cup group stage for the first time in their history.

This has brought great satisfaction to Mosimane – a former CAF Coach of the Year after lifting the premier continental club crown in 2016, adding that it will ultimately benefit the South African national team.

“It’s good and I’m so happy that my brothers are there [on the continent] now in the groups stages [Ed note: Chiefs are yet to reach the Confederation Cup group stage],” said Mosimane.

“We’re all flying the flag, which is good for Bafana Bafana because we’re playing against [African] players in that space.

“I’m happy with that. It’s been our lives for the last five years that we’ve lived in that space, and there’s no excuses about the competitions.”

'Jingles’ also lauded the patriotism of the League, who have accommodated all three representatives by adjusting their domestic fixture schedule to suit their travels on the continent.

“I must really give the PSL credit, they’ve been communicating with us even during the week and at night, to try and help us fly the flag of the country by shifting and moving games,” he noted.

“We’ve got about 32 games [in all competitions] ahead and there’s no break in between, so I think Chiefs and Pirates are going to go through the same thing.”

Mosimane also boldly suggested that The Clever Boys, who boast a two-point lead at the top of the standings, would reclaim the league title they relinquished to Downs last season.

“So, Wits – I tip Hunty [coach Gavin Hunt] to run away with the [Absa Premiership] title,” concluded the three-time domestic championship-winning tactician.
