New Chippa United CEO Morgan Mammila believes he has laid a strong foundation at Baroka FC for whoever is going to step into his shoes.
Mammila was serving as the CEO at Bakgaga before switching allegiance to fellow strugglers Chippa in the new year.
On Monday Chilli Boys chairman Siviwe 'Chippa' Mpengesi confirmed to KickOff.com that Mammila has replaced Peter Koutroulis at the relegation-threatened club.
"Aah you know, this is football," said Mammila when asked about his decision to swap Baroka for United.
"To be honest, I think you can see Baroka FC have found something. They have got a foundation. So I'm not a greedy man, so it just needs someone to take it from where I left and take it up. There are people that I have been working with there, they are capable of taking the team to the next level.
"Baroka is like a family business, so ... you know, if your father's got a shop and you are working at the shop, you know you won't go all out. So after winning the Telkom Cup, and I just told myself that I need a new challenge now, and luckily Chippa was on my case for the past two years. He asked me 'please man, can you come and help me because otherwise I'll be down there to the NFD, unless you come and help me'.
"Ja, firstly you know Chippa has been always on the list of big players, but they haven't achieved anything. And the chairman of Chippa is a winner. He likes to win, he is a winner. But at the rate they are going now it's unfair to him. It's unfair to the lot of supporters that they have. I'm not a messiah, I'm just going there to lend the little knowledge that I have with what they have to see where it will take us."
Mammila is known for travelling all over the continent to convince players to come join his club, as he did with the likes of Khalid Awisho, Rodwell Chinyengetere, Talent Chawapiwa and Elvis Chipezeze at Bakgaga. He has vowed to do the same at Chippa.
"You are going to see that ku Chippa, that's what I'm good at. Baroka will still be my home. You know I'm a person who likes challenges. I didn't leave Baroka for a team that is up there you know. I left Baroka for a team that is fighting relegation. Because you know if the league were to finish today, obviously we are going to go and play the play-offs.
"You know if you want to do a good thing you don't look at one direction, you look at the whole package of what's going on and you do the right thing. There's a lot that we need to do at Chippa. There's only a few players that we'll bring in. We are not going to go all out and get players; a few players will do. And Chippa, they've got quality players. It's just a matter of knowing who they are, and doing right by the management will motivate the players.
"I haven't even went to PE, I'm still in Jo'burg with the team. I'm going to PE sometime on Thursday and we'll take it from there. Ja, unfortunately my family, they'll be around Jo'burg, that's where they will be staying."
