Bidvest Wits defender Vuyo Mere respects Kaizer Chiefs' pedigree

Bidvest Wits right-back Vuyo Mere feels it will be suicidal to undermine a big team like Kaizer Chiefs as they can easily turn things around.
Eighth-placed Chiefs trail log leaders Wits by 12 points after 16 games, but Mere doesn't believe this makes the Students favourites for tonight's clash at Bidvest Stadium (19h30).
"Nah, we are not favourites my brother," Mere tells KickOff.com.
"We still have the minority of supporters of the two teams and Chiefs will always be the favourites, and that's how we want it. We don't want unnecessary pressure because we already have pressure of maintaining the top spot on the log."
In the first round this season, Wits claimed a 3-1 win at FNB Stadium with goals from Deon Hotto, Terrence Dzvukamanja and Gift Motupa, while they are unbeaten in the last three league games against the Naturena-based side.
"Chiefs is a big team with lots and lots of good players, they can turn things around at any time so we can't judge them with one game. They had their moments against Downs and they looked pretty good, so we can't afford to undermine them," insists Mere, referring to Amakhosi's 2-1 home loss to champions Mamelodi Sundowns on the weekend.
Unlike most teams in the chasing pack, the former Platinum Stars captain doesn't hide the fact that the Clever Boys are gunning for the league title.
"We would all be at school or working in the corporate world if we didn't chase the league title, so yeah we are chasing the league title."
