Maritzburg United coach Muhsin Ertugral looks ahead to relegation battle

New Maritzburg United head coach Muhsin Ertugral has faith he can steer the bottom-placed club to safety.

Ertugral, who was unable to help Ajax Cape Town avoid relegation last term, believes the next three games are key for Maritzburg, starting with Sunday’s KwaZulu-Natal derby against Golden Arrows at Sugar Ray Xulu Stadium (15h30).

The Team of Choice have started 2019 at the bottom of the Absa Premiership standings, following a disappointing first half of the season, in which former coach Fadlu Davids was unable to inspire the team to similar results as last term.

"It is unbelievable that a club that finished in the top four last season find themselves in this situation. We need to sort out whatever led to that," Ertugral said.

The Turk added: "We need to save the club from this position. Generally every team I've joined in January I've saved it, I'm a builder. We need to be out of that position soon. The next three games will be key."

Maritzburg will know the importance of registering a victory, so that they do not fall too far behind the clubs above them.

After Arrows, the Team of Choice will take on Free State Stars and Chippa United.
