Maritzburg confirm Khenyeza appointment

Maritzburg United have confirmed the appointment of Mabhuti Khenyeza as their new assistant coach to Muhsin Ertugral.

Maritzburg said on Twitter: "CLUB STATEMENT: Maritzburg United are delighted to confirm the appointment of Mabhuti Khenyeza as assistant coach to Muhsin Ertugral."

Khenyeza was quoted as saying: "Becoming a coach is something I always wanted to pursue after my playing career.

"I have kept an eye on the club over the years, and I am really happy to start my journey here."

AmaZulu yesterday announced 36-year-old Khenyeza had retired from playing as the PSL's second top scorer with 110 goals - 13 goals shy of Usuthu's Siyabonga Nomvethe.

Ertugral, who coached Khenyeza at Kaizer Chiefs and Ajax Cape Town, took over the reins from the sacked Fadlu Davids last month at the bottom-placed Team of Choice.

Maritzburg will resume their fight for survival against KwaZulu-Natal rivals Golden Arrows at Sugar Ray Xulu Stadium on Sunday.

United have 11 points from 14 matches, five points less than Abafana Bes'thende, who recently hired ex-Bloemfontein Celtic mentor Steve Komphela as a replacement for Clinton Larsen.
