Cape Town City’s Kermit Erasmus not thinking about Bafana Bafana just yet

Cape Town City striker Kermit Erasmus says he’s focusing on getting regular game-time with his new side before thinking about a return to the senior national team Bafana Bafana.

Erasmus was announced as City’s new signing earlier this month after a difficult spell in Europe, which saw him playing in France, Sweden and Portugal after leaving Soweto giants Orlando Pirates in 2015.

The 28-year-old is now back in the PSL and is determined to play regularly to prove his worth for a City side that has the likes of Siphelele Mthembu and Matthew Rusike as their striking positions.

Erasmus, who will be eligible to play for the Citizens from January onwards, was last called up to the Bafana squad for a 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Nigeria, which was played in Uyo last year.

“For me it’s just to start playing again as I haven’t played in a very long time,” Erasmus pointed out.

“It’s to get the enjoyment back of scoring goals, creating goals and winning matches. With those things done obviously there would be opportunities to join the national team again, but it’s all up to me what I do on the field."

The former SuperSport United forward will be itching to get underway when City take on his former side from Tshwane at Lucas Moripe Stadium on January 5.
