Kaduna coach resigns amid allegations

Kaduna United coach Julius Jatau Alhassan has denied allegations of match-fixing and is set to hand in his resignation on Tuesday following the club’s scandalous 9-0 loss to Zamfara United on Sunday night.
Alhassan has also called for an independent panel to investigate any allegations of wrongdoing, claiming his club lost fair and square to Zamfara United, who needed all nine goals to secure their Premier League place at the expense of Akwa United.
Bayelsa United’s first-ever League title win was overshadowed by Zamfara’s eye-popping scoreline against Kaduna, but Alhassan insisted that there was nothing untoward and he wanted to resign to clear the way for an investigation.
“I have to resign because, to me as a coach, for my team to concede that number of goals, it doesn’t tell good of me. The media are mounting pressure on me as if I sold out the match. I did not sell out the match and the League organisers can set up a panel of inquiry to investigate and find out,” Alhassan told KickOffNigeria.com. “If I resign, they cannot say I am blocking the investigation.”
Reports after the game alleged that Kaduna left out most of the first team regulars to make the game ‘easier’ for Zamfara to win by the astounding scoreline, but Alhassan denied it.
“Our first goalkeeper was injured 15 minutes before the game. The second one who came in suffered two rough tackles that the referee did not call. So he retaliated and got a red card. A player came in for him because we cannot abandon the match. We were under pressure and he could not cope with pressure.
“Ray Nnaji was the Match Assessor and he is an independent person and he can tell you that the players were the same we have been using since. We were in a situation where the other team were trying to survive at all costs and the pressure was too much for the player in goal to handle.”
He reiterated his call for an investigation, saying: “After all, last time Akwa scored 13 goals and there was an investigation. Let them set up a panel and let everybody come in and testify so that the truth will come out.”
