Kaduna coach resigns amid allegations

Kaduna coach resigns amid allegations

Posted: 2009-06-15 21:11

Kaduna United coach Julius Jatau Alhassan has denied allegations of match-fixing and is set to hand in his resignation on Tuesday following the club’s scandalous 9-0 loss to Zamfara United on Sunday night.

Alhassan has also called for an independent panel to investigate any allegations of wrongdoing, claiming his club lost fair and square to Zamfara United, who needed all nine goals to secure their Premier League place at the expense of Akwa United.

Bayelsa United’s first-ever League title win was overshadowed by Zamfara’s eye-popping scoreline against Kaduna, but Alhassan insisted that there was nothing untoward and he wanted to resign to clear the way for an investigation.

“I have to resign because, to me as a coach, for my team to concede that number of goals, it doesn’t tell good of me. The media are mounting pressure on me as if I sold out the match. I did not sell out the match and the League organisers can set up a panel of inquiry to investigate and find out,” Alhassan told KickOffNigeria.com. “If I resign, they cannot say I am blocking the investigation.”

Reports after the game alleged that Kaduna left out most of the first team regulars to make the game ‘easier’ for Zamfara to win by the astounding scoreline, but Alhassan denied it.

“Our first goalkeeper was injured 15 minutes before the game. The second one who came in suffered two rough tackles that the referee did not call. So he retaliated and got a red card. A player came in for him because we cannot abandon the match. We were under pressure and he could not cope with pressure.

“Ray Nnaji was the Match Assessor and he is an independent person and he can tell you that the players were the same we have been using since. We were in a situation where the other team were trying to survive at all costs and the pressure was too much for the player in goal to handle.”

He reiterated his call for an investigation, saying: “After all, last time Akwa scored 13 goals and there was an investigation. Let them set up a panel and let everybody come in and testify so that the truth will come out.”

MR JATAU,IM NOT ACCUSING YOU BECAUSE I GOT NO PROOF,BUT THE RESULT LOOK SUSPICIOUS?YOU CAN ONLY SPEAK FOR YOURSELF YOU CAN NOT SPEAK FOR YOUR PLAYERS,JUST ONLY TWO PLAYERS CAN FIXED A GAME.I WONDER WHY YOU SO MUCH INSISTING ON PANEL.

SANCHEZ: 2009-06-15 22:50

So ZAMFARA united needed to score nine goals against KADUNA united to secure promotion to the premier league, and they did just that.hhhmmmm,Mr Jatau you got a lot of explanation to make. This has shown that some of the so called coaches handling football clubs in Nigeria are contributing nothing to the development of the players and the game in general. What is Jatau's qualification as a coach, how did he get the job, who gave him the job. He got to be exposed now before his sponsors send him to handle any of the national teams as a reward for ensuring that Zamfara made it to nigerian premier league. I want to believe that tribalism played no part in this result cos it will plunge our league to its lowest depth if teams from certain parts of the country gang up to ensure that one of them make it to the top irrespective of their performance. And how will Zamfara United cope in the premier league, lets wait and see.

Will AKWA UNITED be relegated if this result stands? If the answer is yes then Nigerians should learn from their experience. "Treat others the way you will like them to treat you."

Marvel: 2009-06-15 23:08

Zamfara united, do not celebrate if you are retaining your premiership slot by fraud. The fate of Akwa United awaits you in the near future.WHATEVER YOU OBTAIN BY FRAUD WILL NEVER BE YOURS AND CAN ONLY EARN YOU HEART BREAKS.

This Coach Jatau is talking rubish, when i say rubish i mean Packaged rubish, why resig?, i dont know why people tarnish thier image just bcos of Peanut, Resign or no Resign that has nothing to do with the Crystal clear truth that the match was sold and he Jatau cannot deny he has no hand in the arrangement, Its a collective arrangement, the club that wants to survive relegation by all means offered bribe and the money has been shared, paid in different account of their relations to avoid being noticed, but there is nothing hidden under the sun, what i love most is that all Nigerians are wise and knows the match was arranged, pls no arguement on this, the Footbal Governing Body NFA should go ahead and purnish the offenders, pls no panel of enquiry, simply catch the coach and the referee then by the time they spend one week at Panti they wont hessitate to fish out colleborators,,Harrison Eke, California USA.

The truth is what goes around comes around.Akwa United had their fair share when they scored 13 goals against an opponent so as to gain promotion. We Nigerians knew that was not a fair result.Akwa United didn't have to do that. You cannot eat your cake and have it.Do unto others as you would want others do unto you.The same way Akwa United came, same way they are going. They should not complain as they did the same thing.
This is bad for our football. No doubt even a kid will know that money changed hands in the Zamfara United vs Kaduna United game. These two teams might think they are smart today but they can't tell what tomorrow holds in stock for them.Ill gotten wealth does no one any good.
A word is enough for the wise.

Forumites!!! please help me to generate a better equation than the one below:
-9goals-15minutes 1st choice keeper injury =Relegation...(i)
Naira power+9goals = Retention...(ii)
energy and skills purposely reserved for the last season game+ red card = Retention...(iii)
therefore,eq(ii)+eq(iii)= NO DEMOTION. This has proved NPL/NFF Theory 2009. QED.

This is is is is is baaaaaad for Nigerian football.Last time it was Akwa united beating Calabar Rovers 13-0 and now Zamfara beats Kaduna united by 9-0.We all know these matches were fixed, and we are talking about investigation, investigate what?.the score lines were outrageous and why must it always happen on the last day of the league?, if they are so good , why didn't they get this kind of scoreline from the begining or middle of the league?, why on the last day?. Please we need to wake up, and move our football forward. Those involved should be punished and the teams bannish to lower division, just like in the Italian league, and that should serve as lesson to others. Simple!

Nigerians are very funny poeple! Look at kaduna united coach talking. What else has he got to say? even when the truth is clear. Why would he not want to resign when the money he got from the match fixing is enough to set him a good trade of maybe trafficking in hard drugs. Afterall he has not done well as a coach.
This is an ugly virus that will soon eat up the successes made in recent times in the NPL if unchecked. Akwa united went scotfree with it and now zamfara united! Quite an ugly trend! Wow! to everybody that has been part of this mess.

this is quite outrageous!
and as glaring as daylight.
zamfara united and kaduna united should face disciplinary action ranging from fines, demotions and bans.

long : 2009-06-16 13:22

how so convenient, first choice goal keeper gets injured 15 minutes before the match, second choice goal keeper gets sent off, on field player mans the post and zamfara scores the exact 9 goals needed to avoid the drop!!! come on! tell me coach just how much money was involved?

Teddy: 2009-06-16 13:24

This is a clear indication of match fixing, its absurd and certainly paints an ugly picture about the nigerian league..... NFF/NFL do something about this, borrow a leaf from the Italian serie A

come to think of it, while the entire affair reeks of fraud,it is also a case of what goes around comes around. simply put akwa united, also benefited from a dubious match to gain promotion into the premier league, remember that scandalous 13-1 victory over Calabar rovers? TALKING ABOUT BEING PAID BACK IN YOUR OWN COIN!!

jazzy: 2009-06-16 22:05

can this happen in English league?...a team that was losing games at home almost every month is beating another team at the last hr 9-0 with 2 goalkeepers arranged outside?
...nff, pls wake up &rescue Nigerian football! it's all we've got!

Chukwuemeka: 2009-06-17 09:51

Akwa United players and fans have to take this result in good faith. Afterall in their bid to gain promotion two years ago they scored 13 goals past Rovers and nobody raised an eyelid. Well they say that whatever goes around always have a way of coming around. Afterall in a report, one of their staff said they do not have the moral justification to protest the result. Well am not saying that this is a good scenario but it is an eye opener for both the NFF and NPF. The NFF has reacted but i must say they did not do it on time. They should have done it earlier. This is not telling good about our league. I mean when will this win at all cost syndrome stop in our league. Punitive measures and actions should seriously be considered and taken without favour to put an end to this ugly trend of win at all cost in our league.
