Orlando Pirates winger Thembinkosi Lorch is one of a few players who will be playing in a knockout competition final for the first time, so you can imagine how excited he is.
Pirates are set to take on Baroka FC in the Telkom Knockout decider and Lorch could get his hands on silverware for the first time in his professional career, and also be part of the generation that ended a four-year trophy drought for the Buccaneers.
The former Maluti FET College man is Pirates’ top scorer in the competition with three goals. Two came versus AmaZulu and another one against Kaizer Chiefs in the semi-final at Moses Mabhida Stadium.
Lorch is no doubt a contender for the Player of the Tournament, but he’d take winning the competition with his team ahead of getting an individual accolade.
“I have not won a trophy in the PSL,” Lorch told KickOff.com.
“Obviously I am happy that we are in the final and I think winning the trophy will boost my confidence for the second round of the season. I am happy that the team is in the final and we have a chance to win a trophy for the first time in a long time.”
Lorch is one of many first team regulars who did not travel to Seychelles for the CAF Champions League match against Light Stars on Wednesday. He, along with the likes of Xola Mlambo, Vincent Pule and Happy Jele, were rested for the final.
It’s a big game for the Buccaneers and they want their players to be fresh to end the trophy drought.
Lorch has already scored against Baroka in the Absa Premiership this season, so they need to keep a close eye on him to avoid disappointment.
