Dominic Isaacs grateful for Roger de Sa guidance at Cape Umoya United

New Cape Umoya United coach Dominic Isaacs felt his men showed character to reach the next round of the Nedbank Cup, while he expressed gratitude to Roger de Sa for his guidance.

Umoya are the only Cape-based team to qualify for the last-32 following their 4-2 win over TS Sporting on home soil.

Ajax Cape Town, Ubuntu Cape Town and National First Division leaders Stellenbosch FC all suffered losses in their respective cup matches over the weekend.

Isaacs, 36, was pleased with the positive display from his players in his first match since taking over the reins from De Sa.

“Look, it has been a difficult week for everyone involved with the club for obvious reasons and I’m satisfied with the way the players responded,” Isaacs told

“They showed great character and grit, you know. Everyone pulled through nicely. One could see that the players were playing for one another and there was a fighting spirit on the field. Our keeper (Tawfeeq Salie) pulled off two great saves … he even saved two penalties. The vibe in the camp is upbeat and there’s lots of excitement. But we should not get carried away as there is still lots of hard work ahead and we have achieved nothing yet.”

The former Ajax Cape Town and Kaizer Chiefs defender went on to wish De Sa well in his revised managerial role at the NFD strugglers.

“I’m one of the few players who has played and worked with coach De Sa, and for that I’m grateful. I have learnt a lot from Roger during the past few months while I was his assistant. Roger is also a genuine guy.

“When I called him he told me that his door will always be open should I need advice or if I want to bounce something off him, or just want to chat. I wish him well in his new role.”
