Kaizer Chiefs coach Giovanni Solinas has to turn things around for Amakhosi

Posted: 5 December 2018 Time: 08:00

The Kaizer Chiefs hotseat will get even hotter for Italian coach Giovanni Solinas in the next two months.

With just four points out of a possible 15 collected in their last five matches, the next two months will be a period where the former Free State Stars tactician has to prove his qualities as a coach and ability to handle the pressure that comes with having a tough fixture list.

Following their defeat to Golden Arrows over the weekend which was followed by the loss in Zanzibar to Zimamoto FC in the CAF Confederation Cup on Tuesday, Solinas somehow has to pick his players up for the upcoming matches that could either end their season or give them some hope of winning the Absa Premiership title.

Next on Amakhosi’s list is SuperSport United at Mbombela Stadium, the venue now chosen to host the match due to the FNB Stadium pitch not being in good condition, next Wednesday. This will be Chiefs’ last match of 2018, a year which has been nothing short of a disaster.

To start 2019, Amakhosi will host defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns at FNB Stadium on January 5, and then four days later take on title hopefuls Bidvest Wits in Milpark.

It won’t get any easier as they will then travel to the ever-improving AmaZulu on January 15. Usuthu have shown in recent weeks that they are up for a fight after they were docked six points early in the season. They are making up for the points they lost and they are certainly not going to allow teams to take points off them in KZN.

The first two matches in February will be against Cape Town City and Soweto rivals Orlando Pirates, who have beaten Amakhosi twice already this season.

Now the question is, will Solinas still be in charge for these matches? Only time will tell.
