Black Leopards’ new Romanian coach Mario Marinica was hired because he is a ‘friend’ of Ted Dumitru.
According to a source at Black Leopards, the club has hired a “friend” of Ted Dumitru as their new coach.
Marinica who arrived in Polokwane on Saturday, also brought along a goalkeeper coach.
The 44-year-old coach will, according to KickOff.com’s source, be assisted by Innocent Mayoyo.
Marinica was until recently the interim manager of Romania’s Premier Division side FC Gloria Buzău. He has also coached at Romanian clubs Sportul Studentesc, FC Gloria Buzău, Argeş Piteşti, Rocar Bucureşti, and Cimentul Fieni.
In England, he has worked at Crystal Palace and Arsenal's Youth Academies as well as Leyton Orient's School of Excellence. His playing career included spells at Rocar Bucureşti, Dinamo Bucureşti and Steaua Bucureşti.
During the 2006 Fifa World Cup, he assisted Paraguay, providing technical analysis of their Group B rivals: England, Sweden and Trinidad & Tobago.
He holds a UEFA Pro Licence, which is the highest football coaching qualification but whether it would be enough to keep him at Leopards is another story.
