Paris Saint-Germain's Gianluigi Buffon makes bold statement on Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino

Gianluigi Buffon may be lined-up alongside Neymar, Kylian Mbappe and Edinson Cavani at Paris Saint-Germain but he's made a remarkable statement about Liverpool's attacking trio ahead of their Champions League encounter.

Neymar and Kylian Mbappe are the two most expensive players in football history, and with Edinson Cavani the trio set back PSG a reported €466m.

However, Buffon, who joined the Ligue 1 champions in the off-season, after 17 years at Juventus, believes the attacking trio of Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino is unparalleled at the moment.

"Liverpool have a very strong team - but I do especially look at their front players," Buffon told The Mirror.

"Throughout my career, I have always wanted to test myself against the best — and at the moment you really can't think of any teams in Europe who have a better front three than Liverpool.

Between them, Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino joined the club for a reported €124m, which makes for starling reading as teenage Mbappe, alone, was acquired for €66m more than the dazzling trio.

Buffon though, believes the Reds have to be classed among the favourites for the title - even though he is dreaming of a first ever Champions League crown.

"This season, I see the favourites for the Champions League as Barcelona, Juventus, and Manchester City. Liverpool as well have a big chance and you can never forget about Real Madrid," he said.

"Of course it is still a dream of mine to win the Champions League - last season I thought would be my last chance but now I have another one."
