KickOff.com can confirm that AmaZulu are assessing defender Ayabulela Konqobe.
Konqobe has been clubless since leaving Chippa United at the end of last season after reportedly turning down a new contract offer.
He later tried his luck at Kaizer Chiefs and Highlands Park without success.
Sources have confirmed to this website that Konqobe is at Usuthu and trying to impress coach Cavin Johnson with hopes of winning a deal.
If Konqobe is signed it will be his third stint with the Absa Premiership strugglers.
The 22-year-old first featured for them in 2015/16 when the club was campaigning in the National First Division, after he parted ways with Ajax Cape Town.
That stint ended after he broke a club curfew along with then-Mamelodi Sundowns' on-loan midfielder Avela Cezu, and was deemed surplus to requirements on his return to the Urban Warriors.
He came back to Usuthu at the beginning of last season after rekindling his career at the now-defunct Thanda Royal Zulu when the club won the NFD title under the late coach Roger Sikhakhane in 2016/17. However, he didn't play a single match and Usuthu swapped him with Chippa's Rhulani Manzini.
Konqobe previously moved to SuperSport United on a short-term loan deal from Ajax in the second half of 2014/15 when Gordon Igesund was in charge, but he only played 66 minutes for the Pretoria club.
Meanwhile, AmaZulu have released Boysen Mbatha and parted ways with Lungelo Dlamini, whose loan stint from Royal Eagles was cut short.
