Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane wants high-scoring game against Orlando Pirates

Posted: 9 November 2018 Time: 16:30

Mamelodi Sundowns' Pitso Mosimane has never been the type of coach to encourage his team to sit back and defend, so he is expecting a high-scoring game against Orlando Pirates.

Matches between Sundowns and Pirates are hardly ever short of action and there’s good reason to believe that the sides will have a full go at one another when they lock horns at Loftus Stadium on Saturday.

Sundowns have the attacking flair of Gaston Sirino, Lebohang Maboe, Aubrey Ngoma and Themba Zwane if available, while the Buccaneers have speedy and skilful players such as Vincent Pule, Justin Shonga, Augustine Mulenga and Thembinkosi Lorch.

Mosimane is hoping both sets of players can live up to the hype that’s surrounding the game and produce a 4-3 or 4-4 result. He does not want to sit through 90 minutes for 1-0 or a goalless draw. It just would not satisfy him.

“I always say let’s go toe-to-toe. But you know Sundowns, if you give us two punches, we give you three. Probably we will have a thriller. I mean why not? Let’s have 4-3, I like that. I don’t like 1-0. Let’s do 4-3, 4-4. Not 0-0,” Mosimane said ahead of the match against the table-topping Buccaneers.

“It’s a difficult game we are playing. We are playing a good team, free-flowing team, confident team, team on form. They have a good coach [Milutin Sredojevic]. We are a team in construction, but that’s part of football. No excuses.”

Mosimane is aware that Pirates rested their key players when they played Polokwane City on Tuesday, with one eye on their clash with Sundowns. Ben Motshwari, Vincent Pule, Innocent Maela and Xola Mlambo sat out while others were given some game-time.

“Yes [they were resting players], 100 percent. It’s a fact. It’s a big game, they want to win it and we understand.”
