Wits will not be participating in any of the continental club competiitions, which gives them time to rest for their league matches. Sundowns and Orlando Pirates will campaign in the CAF Champions League, while Kaizer Chiefs and Free State Stars are set to take part in the Confederation Cup.

Mosimane says Gavin Hunt’s men will be fit and fresh for all their Absa Premiership matches because they will not have to take long flights, wait in transit and still have to play a domestic match just days after a demanding trip around the continent.

“The team that has a big chance to win the league is Wits. How did Pirates come out strong last season? They came second remember? No top eight, no Champions League.

“What do you see with Wits? They will be strong, fit, fresh, Sunday to Sunday or Saturday to Saturday. They are favourites for the league. But the other four people [Sundowns, Pirates, Chiefs and Stars] let’s be on the flight, let’s be on transit and let’s see what we can do when we have to play every three days, you know.

“It’s going to be tough. The programme in January in unbelievable. So you have to say I prioritise on Champions League or I prioritise on the league, I don’t know. And there’s also internationals with Bafana. We suffer a lot with internationals because we always have six in Bafana. We have Kennedy [Mweene], Toni Silva, everybody going away.”
