Kaizer Chiefs coach Giovanni Solinas was pleased with the reaction from his side against SuperSport United, following their Soweto Derby defeat last weekend.
Defender Ramahlwe Mphahlele netted a cracker of a strike to earn Amakhosi a place in the semi-finals of the tournament.
“I’m very happy because my boys today showed character after the derby loss. The reaction is very positive. They showed the desire and commitment. So great performance,” the Italian told SuperSport TV.
Solinas threw on two defenders from the bench, taking out two attackers in the closing minutes of the game and explained that he was forced by circumstances beyond his control.
“We have some players who are not 100 percent fit coming from injuries like [Leonardo] Castro. Castro said to me, “please change” but in the same moment [Khama] Billiat had the cramp.
“So I said to Castro please continue. I put the extra defender to kill the game."
Solinas was also delighted with performance from Mphahlele, who scooped up the Man of the Match award.
“Outstanding, unbelievable. Today I appreciate the performance. Rama was very intelligent. He kept the balance, moved forward in the right moment, stayed back in the right moment. So [it was] an intelligent performance,” he said.
