Free State Stars left it late to force a 1-1 draw with Golden Arrows in the Absa Premiership on Wednesday.
Both sides eased slowly in the game, studying the various movements of one another before contemplating any action.
In the sixth minute, the visitors sprung the first opportunity after Knox Mutizwa control, turned and shot inside the box.
Stars pushed forward soon after and managed to feed the ball out wide, but weren’t able to do the same with crosses inside the box following thorough defending.
Arrows construed another good move when Patrick Phungwayo found space to get a shot away which Nkosingiphile Gumede needed two attempts to gather safely on the midway point.
Soon, there was an injury that forced them to shuffle their pack after Siyanda Zwane collided with Sthembiso Dlamini.
Romario Dlamini entered for the unfortunate party, and it did little to affect their game-plan in greater detail.
Ea Lla Koto whipped in a floating cross which picked out Judas Moseamedi who sent the delivery to the side-netting after 34 minutes.
Abafana Besthende went in front after Nkanyiso Cele’s free-kick from the near side went past everyone and into an empty net on 36 minutes.
As expected, Stars pressed for an immediate response and Arrows needed Gumede to produce a good finger-tip save to stop Moseamedi.
After halftime, Stars started on the brighter side creating more chances and more threatening scenarios on goal.
The KZN side launched a counterattack on 51 minutes but after getting on the edge of the box, Mutizwa hoofed over the top.
On the half and hour mark, Stars decided to venture forward with slow build-ups but weren’t able to penetrate the defence.
Sinthemba Jantjie replaced foreign striker Harris Tchilimbou on 62 minutes in the first change for the home side.
Dlamini became the latest player trying to get on goal for Stars, but missed the net by a whisker with 20 minutes to go.
In the latter stages, Stars threw bodies forward and made life difficult for Arrows.
Moseamedi though pounced with three minutes to go, finishing off nicely from inside the box for a share of the spoils.
