Black Leopards coach Joel Masutha excited to play Kaizer Chiefs in the Telkom Knockout

Black Leopards coach Joel Masutha says his players are looking forward to testing themselves against a Kaizer Chiefs side that has not won a title in three years.

Chiefs last lifted the Absa Premiership trophy in 2014/15 under current Bafana Bafana coach Stuart Baxter, and Leopards are looking to add to Amakhosi’s woes by knocking them out in the Telkom Knockout last 16.

The two sides are scheduled to meet next weekend, with Amakhosi set to host the tie. The venue for the match will soon be announced by the PSL.

Leopards have made a slow start in the league, but Masutha knows his boys will be motivated to upset Amakhosi.

Leopards are no strangers to upsetting Chiefs in a knockout competition, having done so in the Nedbank Cup a few years ago while they were still in the National First Division.

“Everyone is excited to play big teams. My players will be motivated on the field. They want to test themselves against a Chiefs team that has not won a cup in like three years. They [Chiefs] will be under pressure and they will be forced to come at us,” Masutha said to after the draw was conducted in Johannesburg on Monday.

The former Leopards goalkeeper adds: “Everyone expects them to win, but it’s not going to be an easy match for either side because we will be up for the challenge.”
