Sammy Troughton tipped for Witbank Spurs job

KickOff.com understands that National First Division strugglers Witbank Spurs are set to announce Sammy Troughton as their new coach.

Last week the club parted ways with Zimbabwean coach Rahman Gumbo after a string of poor results, placing former head coach Vusi Mkhatshwa in charge on an interim basis.

According to a source close to Troughton, the former Mpumalanga Black Aces, Free State Stars and University of Pretoria tactician is poised to take over the reins at the Mpumalanga-based outfit.

"Yeah, he will be coming down to Witbank this afternoon. He is coming back to Witbank. You know he was there before with Aces, he promoted Aces."

This website was also informed that Ian Palmer was in the running for the position.

Spurs CEO Freddy Mapulane would only say they would name their new coach today.

"I will be announcing our new coach. The only clue I can give you is that he is a white man, coached in the PSL and NFD."

Spurs are 14th on the second-tier table with four points from seven games.
