KickOff.com looks at five reasons SuperSport United will defend their MTN8 title

Posted: 27 September 2018 Time: 20:30

The MTN8 final is fast approaching as SuperSport United and Cape Town City prepare to lock horns for the second year running.

Ahead of the final, KickOff.com gives you five reasons SuperSport will defend their title.

Experience is key

Matsatsantsa have a squad of experienced players who know exactly what it takes to win cup finals. In the MTN8 final against the Citizens last year SuperSport did not panic after going a goal down. They equalised and went on to win via a penalty shootout. Game management will be key and SuperSport, with the experience they have, do this very well.

Strikers are on a high

SuperSport's strikers have started the season fairly well and can definitely open up a City defence that has been shaky at times. Evans Rusike is on form at the moment, while the man who destroyed Kaizer Chiefs in the semi-finals with three goals – Bradley Grobler – is available for the clash. James Keene will be high on confidence after netting a brace against Black Leopards on Sunday.

Yeye the lucky charm

Reneilwe Letsholonyane, another one of the experienced campaigners in the Matsatsantsa side, has never lost a final in Durban. He is the lucky charm SuperSport need to overcome City on Saturday.

Kaitano eager to prove himself

After serving as an assistant coach for quite a few years, Kaitano Tembo is now in charge and will be determined to show why he deserved the job ahead of other coaches who were linked to SuperSport. Tembo has done well since his appointment and has gained the confidence of the players.

Mabhida happy hunting ground for Matsatsantsa

SuperSport have enjoyed great success at Moses Mabhida Stadium in recent years, winning the Nedbank Cup and MTN8 at the venue. This will give them confidence to go for another title.
