SuperSport United forward Fagrie Lakay is determined to work his way back into the national team set-up.
Lakay, who enjoyed a successful loan spell at Ajax Cape Town during the second half of last season, has made a promising start to the season with Matsatsantsa and he is probably going to get even better as he matures.
The forme Santos attacker has loads of experience on the continent, having played for South Africa’s junior national teams, while featuring for Bafana during coach Shakes Mashaba reign as senior team mentor.
“Obviously every player wants to play for the national team, so I just want to keep working hard and hopefully I will see myself in the national team,” Lakay tells KickOff.com.
“I grateful for the opportunity they gave me at Ajax and I think as a player it did me well. The coach has given me the opportunity to play and I want to thank him for the opportunity. The only way I think I can repay him is by working hard and doing well for the team,” Lakay tells KickOff.com.
“At the moment I am playing, so I just want to be a team player and the individual stuff will come from there.”
Lakay will have another opportunity to impress when SuperSport take on Black Leopards in a Absa Premiership match at
“In today’s football there’s no weak teams, so it’s not going to be an easy one. They are going to come here wanting to get a result as much as we do, so I think we just need to prepare well and go there to fight,” Lakay says.
“If you play against teams like Leopards you want to keep the ball and you want to prevent them from coming at you. They are a hard running team and they want to come at you all the time. So we must create chances, score goals and keep them on the back foot.”
