Witbank Spurs coach Rahman Gumbo set to receive work permit

Posted: 9 September 2018 Time: 14:00

New Witbank Spurs coach Rahman Gumbo will finally receive his work permit on Monday, according to the club's CEO Freddy Mapulane.

Tshepo Ntia has been in charge of the National First Division side while the Zimbabwean has been waiting for his papers.

Gumbo, who also serves as an assistant to Sunday Chidzambwa in the Zimbabwe national team, travelled with the Warriors for their trip to Congo Brazzaville on Sunday for a 2019 AFCON qualifier.

"It's out [the work permit], he just needs to go and collect it [at Home Affairs] on Monday. It's a big boost," an excited Mapulane told

"Now he is not around, he is in the national team. During FIFA breaks he goes home to link up with the national team."

Mapulane admitted the lengthy wait for the documentation affected Spurs, who are eighth on the second-tier table with four points from three games.

"If you check our game against Mbombela, decisions were lacking from the technical team on our bench. If you also look at the Maccabi game ... his presence is very important. If ever he was present on the bench we wouldn't have dropped those points.

"We applied for his work permit on the third week of August, we are surprised why it takes so long. Normally it doesn't take a long time, two weeks it comes back."

The Emalahleni-based side will play their next league match on September 15 against University of Pretoria at Puma Stadium.
