Kaizer Chiefs chairman Kaizer Motaung has provided an update regarding Madagascan signing Andriamirado Andrianarimanana, otherwise known as ‘Dax’.

Andrianarimanana was initially announced as one of Amakhosi’s new acquisitions at the end of June, but his Madagascan club delayed the transfer claiming to have a running contract with the player.

The 27-year-old, meanwhile, insisted he was a free agent, while the previous contract he had signed was an amateur one.

Transfer negotiation attempts were then shot down by Fosa Juniors, prompting Chiefs to turn to football governing body FIFA for direction over the matter.

Motaung has since clarified the process that needs to unfold, before the COSAFA Cup Player of the Tournament is eligible for PSL registration and subsequently his club debut.

“First and foremost, he [Dax] has got no contract. He is an amateur, so to speak, but he doesn’t have a contract with the Madagascan team,” Motaung explained to the media.

“We made an offer to them because they are entitled to compensation, but obviously somebody saw an opportunity to try to bring some lotto figures to catch him.

“Unfortunately we couldn’t come to a final agreement, hence we had to go to FIFA for intervention. But, otherwise, he’s confident he doesn’t have a contract.

“The contract that he had, expired almost eight or 10 months ago but it’s also an amateur contract, so they cannot withhold his move to elsewhere in the world if he wants to move.

“He’s training with us, he’s fit now and ready to play. The only thing we’re awaiting is the decision from FIFA. He can play [immediately], he’s free – he’s not contracted to anyone. He’s [technically] a free agent.”
