Mou accepts suspended prison sentence

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has accepted a suspended prison sentence after pleading guilty of two crimes during his time with Real Madrid.

Mourinho, 55, is the latest in a long line of Real Madrid employees of past and present to come under the spotlight through tax affairs after the likes for Marcelo, Fabio Coentrao and Cristiano Ronaldo all faced similar punishments.

In May this year, the Portuguese tactician pleaded guilty to committing two crimes with regards to evading tax on his image rights against Hacienda in 2011 and 2012, which amounted to €3.3m (R52m).

Spanish publication El Mundo has now revealed the sentence has been passed down following an agreement with the Tax Office and the case will now be closed.

However, he will now avoid a 12-month prison sentence, allowing him to remain in charge of Manchester United due to it being his first offence.

First-time offenders in Spain who are handed a sentence of under two years do not serve time physically behind bars, in which prevented Lionel Messi and Ronaldo from a similar outcome.
