Posted: 1 September 2018 Time: 15:08

Liverpool continued their winning start to the English Premier League season with a 2-1 win over Leicester City on Saturday.

Liverpool found a big chance to go ahead after four minutes, but Roberto Firmino’s shot was well saved with Mohamed Salah firing wide the follow-up.

Senegalese international Sadio Mane smashed home the opener on 10 minutes from close range after a pass from Andrew Robertson.

It took Leicester a while to surge ahead, and after 23 minutes Alisson Becker stopped a powerful shot from Andy Gray.

After a period of pressure from the Foxes, the Reds locked the gates of any potential threat and sustained the advantage on the clash.

In hindsight, Liverpool rarely looked troubled and were close to adding to their earlier advantage with a defence extremely tight.

On the stroke of halftime, Roberto Firmino sneaked ahead of the defence to head home from a corner for a two-goal lead at halftime.

Liverpool started the second half with the same intensity after a shot from Joe Gomez was blocked by Andy Maddison at close range on 53 minutes.

Leicester made the first change on 61 minutes as Marc Albrighton went out for Kelechi Iheanacho. The hosts pulled a goal back after Rachid Ghezzal capitalised on a blunder from Alisson after 63 minutes.

Towards the final quarter, Xherdan Shaqiri and Naby Keita replaced Salah and Jordan Henderson in a double switch for the Merseyside outfit.

The evergreen James Milner swiped in a cross which connected with Mane, but the forward headed off target on 82 minutes.

Despite the late surge from both sides, the Reds held their nerve to clinch their third fourth successive win to continue leading the table.
