Kaizer Chiefs coach Giovanni Solinas says his side will continue to play offensively ahead of the MTN8 clash with SuperSport United

Kaizer Chiefs coach Giovanni Solinas has stressed his side will continue playing their attacking brand of football rather than trying to consolidate the first leg result against SuperSport United.

Chiefs are set to host SuperSport in their MTN8 semi-final return leg, after last weekend’s meeting ended 2-2 at the Lucas Moripe Stadium.

Though Amakhosi go into tonight’s tie with a slight away-goal advantage, Solinas insists they will not adopt a more defensive approach but will instead pretend the aggregate score is still goalless.

“We are not a team that can manage a result, we are a team that needs to play football and try to score. So we need to start the game in our minds at 0-0,” said Solinas.

“This is a good approach. We can’t think about the first leg because this would be a big mistake. We start at 0-0 and we play to win the game. It’s very important to try and score.”

With their scoring form having picked up in recent games – scoring four goals in their last two outings – the Italian tactician says their only concern now is to fix their defensive transition. However, he is reluctant to sacrifice an attacking player to do so.

“In our attacking football we use a lot of players to attack – a minimum of seven players, because we have four players in front, one midfielder and our fullbacks,” he explained.

“It’s normal that when the ball is lost we need a defensive transition, we need an immediate reaction because in that moment we lose our balance.

“So we need to improve this so that when the ball is lost we need to have a good reaction mentally and immediately go into a defensive transition.”

Kick-off is at 20h15 at FNB Stadium.
