Yeye: There’s a lesson in Shabba’s move

Posted: 31 August 2018 Time: 20:30

SuperSport United midfielder Reneilwe Letsholonyane is backing his former teammate at Kaizer Chiefs Siphiwe Tshabalala to succeed in Turkey.

'Shabba', 33, ended a 12-year stay at Naturena when he signed a two-year deal with Erzurumspor this week.

Letsholonyane, who spent eight years at Chiefs, believes Tshabalala's move overseas was long overdue.

"I am happy for him. It's long overdue but obviously the timing was not right at that time," says Letsholonyane.

"When in this country they say you are old and you get such an opportunity at his age, and two years (contract) nogal it's huge for him, his family and his career."

The 36-year-old 'Yeye' says it shows that players should be judged on their talent rather than their age in South Africa.

"It's a lesson in the country to say let's rather judge a person on his talent than the age.

"It's unfortunate that we are being taught by another country that this person is talented, irrespective of his age, and they see he can offer something."
