Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Khotso Malope is buoyed by his maiden goal for the club, and is upbeat ahead of this weekend’s MTN8 semi-final clash against SuperSport United.

Malope finally got off the mark for Amakhosi nearly one year on from making his debut for the club, when he scored in his first appearance this season against Bloemfontein Celtic in midweek.

The 24-year-old showed class and composure as he slotted home to double Chiefs' lead in the 64th minute. However shortly after being substituted he saw his team concede two quick goals to draw the match 2-2.

Malope revealed his excitement upon hearing from coach Giovanni Solinas that he would be starting, while also reflecting on opening his scoring account.

“I was so excited [after being named in the starting line-up]. I was focused and ready. I slept well, as I always do,” Malope told his club’s website.

“That [scoring] was a great feeling. The goal helped the team to get a result, [though] a draw was not what we were looking for.

“We have to go back to the drawing board, rectify our mistakes and be focused.”

Having lasted just 71 minutes before being replaced by Bongolethu Jayiya, the former Moroka Swallows attacker explained the reason for his substitution.

“I had a bit of cramp, because I haven’t had much game-time in recent time and therefore lacked a bit of match fitness,” he explained.

With a crucial second leg tie against Matsatsantsa on the horizon, Malope is adamant that Chiefs will advance to their first cup final since 2015.

“We got a 2-2 draw in the first leg, which was positive. We play at home on Saturday night and with the backing of our loyal supporters, I am confident that we will reach the final.”
