SuperSport United handed former coach Eric Tinkler a losing start to his Chippa United career, with a 2-1 triumph in the Absa Premiership.
The new era began for Chippa following the exit of Dan Malesela from the hotseat last week after only three matches.
It was United with the earlier bit of defending as Ronwen Williams was forced to pull off a save off a strike from Kurt Lentjies on 12 minutes.
After that, James Keene gunning for his first goal since arriving, placed a header inches wide off Daniel Akpeyi with the Nigerian well beaten.
Within two minutes, Teboho Mokoena celebrated his national call-up with the opening strike after beating Akpeyi from the edge of the box.
Chippa were close for an instant response, but the effort from Mark Mayambela from outside the box found the side-netting on 19 minutes.
The Port Elizabeth side were level on 26 minutes when Lentjies made no mistake with a glancing header inside the box.
A header from Grant Kekana from outside the box sailed over the top of the crossbar on 38 minutes, with United looking to regain the lead.
Zimbabwean Evans Rusike continued his scoring streak from their last encounter, turning his marker for a low finish on the rebound five minutes to halftime.
In added time, Fagrie Lakay directed a curling shot straight to clutches of Akpeyi after a nice layoff from Keene.
In the second half, Aubrey Modiba’s low shot from outside the box was well saved by Akpeyi on 60 minutes.
Six minutes later, a glancing header from Mayambela sailed inches wide with the hosts nearly living a death experience.
Modiba came with the last piece of attacking 13 minutes to full-time, as he forced a good save from Akpeyi following a corner to see out three wins from three.
