Roger de Sa unconcerned by Cape Umoya’s winless start to the season

Cape Umoya United coach Roger de Sa says he’s not too concerned by his side’s winless start to the 2018/19 National First Division season.
After a 1-1 draw with fellow newbies TS Galaxy in their opening fixture, Cape Umoya played out an uninspiring goalless draw against neighbours Ajax Cape Town at Cape Town Stadium in what was a new experience for De Sa’s new-look squad.
“It was okay,” De Sa said of Tuesday’s encounter. “Not making excuses, but we hadn’t played on a pitch like this all pre-season, so it was a bit different, with a lot of guys slipping, especially in the first half. I think if we get a few more training sessions and games here, on a decent pitch, we can get better.
“We had a couple of half-chances that could have won the game, and they could have also won the game, so I think it was a fair result in the end. I think it’s one of those where the soccer gods decided to keep it fair, maybe.”
Despite failing to earn three points yet, which leaves the club 11th in the NFD standings, De Sa says he isn’t pushing any panic buttons yet.
“Both draws could have been wins, to be honest,” he said. “So as long as we sniffing there and in with a chance, it will turn. You’ve just got to keep fighting and creating opportunities, and it will come. There’s no need to panic that we’ve had two draws. Both draws are not bad results – I mean, Ajax is one of the contenders to bounce back up, and Galaxy away was a tough place to go to. So it’s not two bad results, just two satisfactory results. It’s given us something to build on. Overall it’s okay … not wow, but okay.”
Umoya are on the road again for their next NFD fixture, this time to Maccabi FC, in a game scheduled to take place at Dobsonville Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
