Maritzburg United coach Fadlu Davids says the team would need to sign three players to fill the void left by Lebohang Maboe's departure.
The 23-year-old midfielder played a key role in Maritzburg finishing a best-ever fourth in the league last term and reaching a maiden Nedbank Cup final.
Maboe notably won the Nedbank Cup Player of the Tournament and Most Promising Player awards, in addition to forcing his way into Bafana Bafana contention in 2017/18 prior to earning a lucrative move to Sundowns at the beginning of the month.
“People don’t realise with Lebohang I played him in the holding six and as a number 10. I played him on the right, I played him on the left. He was a multi-functional player,” Davids says.
“Basically we have to sign three players to replace him for the jobs he did. But we are looking at bringing in a striker and perhaps another attacking player. I hope to sign two, but if I get only one then I'll be happy with a striker.”
The Team of Choice are propping up the Absa Premiership table this season with a point from three games, having drawn 0-0 with Kaizer Chiefs at home in their previous outing.
Davids' men next entertain log leaders Bidvest Wits on September 15 at Harry Gwala Stadium.
