Paris Saint-Germain shrugged off a resolute Angers to walk off 3-1 winners to maintain their perfect start to the Ligue 1 season.

Edison Cavani wasted little time stamping his authority, giving the hosts the lead after 12 minutes with a well-taken strike after an assist by Neymar.

The club’s record-goal scorer had the chance to get a double, but his header struck the woodwork before attempting an overhead kick which went over the top.

Angers pressed for the come back, but a good save from Alfonso Areola denied Jeff Reine-Adelaide’s header from close range on 16 minutes.

The visitors were level six minutes later from the spot thanks to Thomas Mangani. after Adelaide was brought down in the box.

As halftime beckoned, Kylian Mbappe edged closer to put the Paris side back in from but was stopped in his tracks with a good save from Ludovic Butelle.

PSG made an early change at the start of the second half, as Thilo Kehrer made way for Stanley Nsoki and the French champions didn’t wait long to reclaim the lead and it was Mbappe coming up with the good with a stunning strike on 52 minutes.

It was then the turn of Brazilian superstar Neymar to turn on the magic, as he converted the third from a low cross by Mbappe at the midway point, with Angers bereft of staging another turn around.

It took them 70 minutes to have another go at Areola, with Adelaide testing the French World Cup winner who pulled off another sterling save to keep their two-goal advantage intact.

Mbappe was almost in for his brace, but it took a good block to safety from Butelle to stifle out his effort on 87 minutes.

In added time, Areola then thumped an effort from the visitors on to the top of the crossbar with Dame N’doye taking aim at goal, leaving PSG to grab all the points.
