Ex-Cape Town City defender Vincent Kobola to assist Eric Tinkler at Chippa United

Posted: 24 August 2018 Time: 08:30

Former Cape Town City defender Vincent Kobola has retired from playing and taken up an assistant coach role at Chippa United.

Chippa in midweek announced the sacking of Dan Malesela and hiring of ex-SuperSport United mentor Eric Tinkler as their new head coach barely three games into the season.

The 33-year-old Kobola, who was released by City in the off-season, will soon be unveiled by the Port Elizabeth-based outfit as Tinkler's assistant.

The pair previously worked together when Tinkler guided the Citizens to a third-place finish in the Absa Premiership in the club's first year of existence in 2016/17.

"Eric Tinkler is currently assembling his own technical team," says a source close to United.

"Kobola has since joined Chippa United as an assistant coach."

The Chilli Boys, in 15th place on the table with a point, next face high-flying Matsatsantsa on Wednesday at Lucas Moripe Stadium (19h30).
