Kaizer Chiefs' Giovanni Solinas rules out Lebogang Manyama and Mario Booysen for MTN8 semifinal

Kaizer Chiefs coach Giovanni Solinas has confirmed he will not be considering new signings Lebogang Manyama and Mario Booysen for this weekend’s MTN8 semifinal first leg.

Amakhosi are set to take on defending champions SuperSport United in the first of two legs at the Lucas Moripe Stadium on Sunday afternoon (15h00).

Despite plenty of excitement from the fans around the club’s transfer business on Wednesday, the Italian tactician has ruled out both Manyama and Booysen from contention as he explained that the pair still need time to match up to the required fitness level.

“For the next game on Saturday (sic), against SuperSport, both Mario and Lebo are not available,” confirmed Solinas on Thursday.

“Because they need to get more fitness, so for the next game these two players won’t be in the squad. We need time to prepare these players for the future.”

Solinas also welcomed management’s efforts in bolstering two key departments for what is expected to be a jam-packed season for Amakhosi, whose demands will be stretched into the new CAF Champions League campaign beginning towards the end of November.

“For the rest of the season we need a big squad, because Kaizer Chiefs compete for a lot of trophies, like the league trophy and we also play in the African continent, so we need a big, strong squad to manage all the games,” he added.

“So, when we start in December playing in [CAF], it will be tough fixtures because we travel and play, there’ll be no time for recovery.

“So we need a big squad because in this manner we can rotate the players. This is why the club has brought in the new players.”
