Stuart Baxter to name Bafana Bafana squad for AFCON qualifier with Libya

Bafana Bafana coach Stuart Baxter will name his squad for next month's all-important Africa Cup of Nations qualifier next week.

Baxter is expected to reveal his squad at a media briefing at SAFA House next week Tuesday, ahead of their AFCON qualifier against Libya on September 8.

Bafana are set to face The Mediteranean Knights for their second round Group E fixture at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in just over two weeks.

Currently second on the log following a 2-0 win over Nigeria last year, South Africa will be seeking another three points to leapfrog Libya, who are top of the group with a superior goal difference.

Baxter faces a selection headache in attack, with the likes of Phakamani Mahlambi having missed out on all competitive action for Egyptian club Al Ahly, amid rumours linking him with a move to Mamelodi Sundowns this season.

Former Sundowns star forward Percy Tau has also been on the fringes of late, following his protracted move to English Premier League side Brighton & Hove Albion, before eventually joining Belgian second division club Royale Union Saint-Gilloise on loan.

However, he would be delighted with the continued good form of France-based striker Lebo Mothiba, who scored in Lille's Ligue 1 opener against Rennes last weekend.
