New Maritzburg United striker Yannick Zakri believes he will be ready to make his debut for the club next month following a lengthy spell of inactivity.
On Monday Maritzburg confirmed the signing of the Ivorian on a two-year deal from Mamelodi Sundowns.
However, the 27-year-old feels he needs a few weeks to regain fitness. He last played in May during a loan spell at Ajax Cape Town where he scored four goals in 10 league appearances.
Zakri, who struggled for regular game-time at Downs following his arrival at the Brazilians in 2016, aims to make his bow when United host Bidvest Wits at Harry Gwala Stadium on September 15.
"To be honest I'm not 100 percent fit, so that's why I'm working very hard to be 100 percent," Zakri said.
"I think four weeks is good, it's fine for me. I'll work very hard to be ready for that game [against Wits].
"Having said that, I'm happy with the team. We can work together. We can do the job together. I'm happy with the coach [Fadlu Davids], with everyone. They took me in like a brother so it makes me work harder."
Zakri downplayed talk he could form a strong partnership with Belgian hitman Andrea Fileccia, who made his first appearance of the season in the goalless draw with Kaizer Chiefs last week following a spell out with a calf injury.
"This is not about only me. It's about the team and that is why I say we'll work together. We'll fight together to win the game together," said the West African.
"Yes, he's a very, very good player. I'm happy to work with him and to work with any other Maritzburg player. I'm happy to play with them."
