Free State Stars' Luc Eymael explains no-show after loss to AmaZulu

Free State Stars coach Luc Eymael has apologised to the media for not showing up at a post-match press conference.

Eymael was visibly incensed during struggling Stars' 2-1 loss to AmaZulu at King Zwelithini Stadium on Sunday as his men squandered numerous goal-scoring chances, especially in the first half.

The Belgian did an interview with SABC TV after the defeat, but did not attend the scheduled press conference, which had to be conducted by his assistant David Vilakazi.

Eymael says his absence was due to illness.

"I was sick. I had flu and you know I always talk to you," Eymael tells

"I still have flu and you can hear my voice. So I was sick and I didn't even eat on Sunday. Sadly after I did the interview with TV nobody came to me. When I came out of the changing room there was nobody, and because I was sick I went to my car with assistant coach Sly Mosala.

"I can see what people are trying to do. Some are trying to destroy my reputation, it's not a problem. But when I'm sick, I'm sick and you can hear now that I'm sick. I have been taking medicine all day.

"So with that said, I want to apologise to the media for not turning up."

Eymael feels it says something that Usuthu goalkeeper Moeneeb Josephs was named Man of the Match after foiling the likes of Harris Tchilimbou and Goodman Dlamini in Umlazi, Durban.

"It is why Moeneeb Josephs was the Man of the Match. We came five times one-on-one with the goalkeeper and unfortunately we missed.

"Our plan was working very well. We had to be more ruthless and clinical in the box."

Ea Lla Koto have won once and lost three times in all competitions this season, which includes their MTN8 quarter-final exit at the hands of Kaizer Chiefs.

Eymael's side, in 13th place on the Absa Premiership table, next host Cape Town City at Goble Park on August 29.
