Thierry Henry 'wants to do it' - Arsene Wenger confirms France legend interest in Ligue 1 side

Thierry Henry is interested in a move to Ligue 1 to start his managerial career, according to his former coach Arsene Wenger.

Henry, who played under Wenger at Arsenal and enjoyed unprecedented success, became assistant coach of World Cup semi-finalists Belgium in 2016.

The Frenchman recently stepped down from his role with Sky Sports to pursue an opportunity in management full-time and was linked with the Aston Villa job ahead of the new season.

And Wenger has now confirmed his interest in Ligue 1 side Bordeaux, who suspended manager Gus Poyet last week for his comments on the club's transfer dealings.

Wenger, who left Arsenal earlier this summer after 22 years, says Henry has what it takes to succeed in management.

"Yes, he (Henry) wants to do it, he is intelligent and he has the qualities," he told Corsican newspaper Corse-Matin.

"The existential question that we always ask ourselves is whether we are ready to sacrifice our life for the coaching profession.

"Being passionate is selfish work. When you are passionate, you steal your time from those whom you love and to whom you could have given much more."
