Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane says their chances of qualifying for the CAF Champions League knockout stages are “50-50”.
Sundowns, who are third in Group C on five points, have to win their final round robin match against visiting Horoya later this month, after they were beaten 1-0 by defending champions Wydad Casablanca (WAC) in Casablanca on Friday night.
It puts Sundowns under pressure to win on home soil, but Mosimane’s men have shown in the past that they can deliver when their backs are against the wall.
“Our chances are 50-50. All we need to do is win our last match at home. We win our last match we qualify. When we play at home we are strong. Even here [in Casablanca] we were strong to be honest,” Mosimane said after the match on Friday night.
“We played WAC in South Africa and we put them under pressure most of the time. We dominated, so we need to win at home. If we don’t win we are out.”
Sundowns were knocked out by Wydad in the previous edition of the tournament.
“I don’t think we are weak. I think we played better than when we came here before because I think today we took the second half. We played better, it’s just that in football the guy takes one chance and he scores. My number 10, Ali Meza, got a chance in front of goal, he did not take it. It’s a game of moments. But I like to play WAC. I wish I can come here every week. They are a good team.”
