AmaZulu came from a goal down to see off Free State Stars 2-1 to move into the top eight of the Absa Premiership on Sunday.
AmaZulu’s promising start was pegged back by a narrow defeat away to SuperSport United, as Ea Lla Koto secured its first win of the campaign at home to Maritzburg United.
Usuthu got off the worst start as Mbongeni Gumede slotted the ball to his own net after trying to play a back pass to Moeneeb Josephs on five minutes.
Stars missed a great opportunity to add another goal when Cesaire Gandze appeared goal-side but after seeing Josephs saved his first effort, horribly missed the rebound.
AmaZulu’s first shot on target happened only at the midway point as Nhlanhla Vilakazi let rip from outside the box.
The Bethlehem outfit continued their troublesome ways and a long ball caught Josephs off his line only for Harris Tchilimbou to pounce and get goal-side, but struck the post with a gaping net after the route.
A free-kick from 22-yards invited Mabhuti Khenyeza with the chance to have a crack, which he duly accepted only to fire straight at Olivier Kwizera.
Usuthu found a way back few minutes from the restart after a stunning strike from outside the box by Argentine Emiliano Tade.
The nimble-footed forward once again attempted to strike from similar distance, but shot over the top with Kwizera having it covered.
Substitute Yusuf Jappie closed in on regaining the lead for Stars but alertness from Josephs thwarted him quickly.
Usuthu were denied by the post eight minutes from time when Siyethemba Sithebe send his effort cracking against the post.
The winner came from Usuthu as Mhlengi Cele volleyed in the bottom corner following a low cross from Thembela Sikhakhane.
