Posted: 18 August 2018 Time: 22:46

FC Barcelona needed a second-half masterclass to breeze past Alaves 3-0 in their LaLiga opener on Saturday evening.

A big chance early on for Lionel Messi saw him latch onto a pass from Sergio Busquets before striking towards goal, but his effort just missed the far post.

A big moment for Alaves arrived when Garcia delivered a dangerous cross into the Barcelona box, with Ruben Sobrino almost getting on the end of its there, only for Pique to come across and clear.

Another chance for the away side as Manuel Garcia delivers a dangerous cross towards Sobrino, but the number seven can only bundled his effort wide of the post.

With over 10 minutes of the first period remaining, Barcelona continued to dominate without threatening to make the breakthrough.

Barca got a free-kick on 38 minutes and with Messi lining up to strike, the crossbar came to the hosts visitors rescue just before halftime.

After 42 minutes, Pacheco pulled out a super save to keep out a strike from Frenchman Ousmane Dembele.

Barca made a change two minutes from the break, as Phillipe Coutinho entered for Nelson Semedo. Then Pacheco made a smart save to keep out a strike from Alba.

Following 58 minutes of action, Messi's strike from a distance missed the crossbar just agonisingly with Pacheco well beaten.

Messi then found the back of the net with a free kick that left Pacheco with no chance after 64 minutes.

Pacheco kept out a strike from Suarez, whose frustrations continued, while another smart save from Pacheco kept out an effort from Coutinho.

The Brazilian made no mistake seconds later after dancing into the box for a stunning finish following a powerful drive on 84 minutes

There was to be a debut for new boy Arturo Vidal five minutes from time, replacing Sergio Busquets, before Messi completed his brace in added time for a resounding opening day victory.
