Juventus have announced the shock departure of iconic midfielder Claudio Marchisio after 25 years at the Italian giants.

Marchisio, 32, has seen his contract terminated by mutual consent after 12 seasons with the first-team since graudtating from the club's academy.

Having joined the club as a seven-year-old, the tireless midfielder was part of the squad that brought Juve back into the Italian top-flight after the Calciopoli scandal back in 2006.

The 55-time capped Italy international went on to become an indispensable part of the Bianconeri, winning the Serie B, seven Serie A titles and four Copa Italia's.

"Having had the opportunity to accompany him on this path, to discover a homegrown champion, day by day, was quite simply a privilege and an honour," read a statement on the club's website.

"And it will be a pleasure to keep following him, with whichever shirt he will wear in the future. For the black and white stripes, as we know, will always form an indelible part of him and his story.

"Thanks for everything, Claudio! We wish you the very best!"

Marchisio's 389 appearances in the black and white mean he sits 18th in the club's all-time list of appearances makers.
