Mamelodi Sundowns striker Jeremy Broke sets his sights on CAF Champions League glory

Posted: 17 August 2018 Time: 10:30

After winning his first domestic league title with Mamelodi Sundowns last season, Jeremy Brockie has his eye on the biggest prize in African club football – the CAF Champions League title.

Brockie had an opportunity to win a continental title with SuperSport United when they got to the Confederation Cup final last year, but they were beaten by DRC giants TP Mazembe in a hard-fought two-legged encounter.

Now in the colours of Tshwane rivals Sundowns, Brockie is concentrating on helping Sundowns get their second star after winning their first one in 2016.

It’s a story he’d love to tell one day when he has retired from playing.

"It would mean a lot. It’s a trophy that every player playing in the competition wants to win and that’s one of the reasons I joined this club. They’ve got history of winning in the league and in the Champions League and they want to do that again," the New Zealand-born forward said.

"It’s something we speak about. The remaining games are in our hand, so we need to go out there and put up attacking performances and make sure we win the games. Personally it’s a competition I’d love to be able to, when I finish playing, say I won the Champions League."

Brockie has been struggling to find the back of the net since joining Sundowns in January and had hoped that the goal he scored in the Shell Helix Cup against Kaizer Chiefs during pre-season would open the floodgates, but it has not been the case.

He’ll have another opportunity to get on the scoresheet when Sundowns take on defending champions Wydad Casablanca in Morocco on Friday night. It's Sundowns' penultimate Group C match and they cannot afford to lose.
