Milutin Sredojevic cool-headed over Orlando Pirates' staggered start

Posted: 16 August 2018 Time: 19:30

Orlando Pirates coach Milutin Sredojevic says there is no reason for them to panic just yet, and stresses that the team is still only “half a product”.

Pirates have had a somewhat unsteady start to the season, having drawn their opening game of the season against Highlands Park, losing to SuperSport United and Bidvest Wits, while only beating Chippa United by a slender margin.

However, this is no cause for alarm for Sredojevic, who insists that his side are only lacking in once area of their game which can be corrected in their Absa Premiership marathon.

“In football there are two types of crisis: crisis of performance and crisis of results. When you have crisis of performance and results then it’s a disaster,” said 'Micho'.

“But when you have a season in front of you, it’s very normal to enter with these types of setbacks of losing. We had a very unfortunate accident to lose, and this is a slight setback.

“However, we do not at all have a crisis of performance. We believe that in the four matches we have played we have dominated, except when we got the red card away in Port Elizabeth. Apart from that moment, we believe that we have performed well.”

On providing further explanation of their start to the campaign, the Serbian tactician stressed the need for the building phase of his plans to be completed in due course.

“When building a house, you cannot in the same moment put the foundation, put the first floor and immediately put the roof,” he added.

“In a way, there is no magic stick. We believe that there are areas in the game in which we are satisfied, that being that we have an easy outcome from defence entering into the consolidation area.

“We believe that we are lacking amounts of entrances and amounts of automatism in position, whether it is side attack, central attack or dodging off-sides behind the opponents’ defence from set-pieces.

“All these things are areas where we are working and where we believe, with the players we have and the work we are doing, that very soon we shall fix the things and have a complete product.

“Until now we have half a product. We dominate, but that domination does not bring a fertile aspect of the results.”
