FIFA announce new leader in Coca-Cola World Ranking system along with a few surprises

Posted: 16 August 2018 Time: 10:30

Following the 2018 World Cup, FIFA have announced the latest rankings, with a new leader while an African giant slumped by a staggering 20 spots.

A month since France lifted the 2018 World Cup title, FIFA have finally released the latest rankings with a brand new formula.

Since being approved by the FIFA Council in June after a lengthy period of testing, the new system 'relies on adding/subtracting points won or lost for a game to/from the previous point totals rather than averaging game points'.

The changes, of which there are several, include the fact that inactive teams now preserve their point totals, with no devaluation of older games.

The new leader, moving up six places is World Champions France, while there's a new-look top 10.

Bafana Bafana remain outside the top 50, currently ranked at 74th, neither moving up or down in their current position.

Notable changes:

France (up 6)

Moves into top 10:

Croatia (4th, up 16) Uruguay (5th, up 9) England (6th, up 6) Denmark (9th, up 3)
