Lionel Messi retirement from Argentina national team 'understandable' claims Carlos Tevez

Posted: 15 August 2018 Time: 19:00

Lionel Messi retiring from Argentina for the second time would not come as a surprise, according to former striker Carlos Tevez.

Messi, 30, has reportedly ruled himself out of contention for national team selection for the rest of the year following the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

There have been suggestions in Argentian media that he could hang up his international boots once again due to the debacle that saw them crash out of Russia 2018 at the last-16 stage.

And Tevez feels the criticism directed at the national team captain could lead to him ending his career without an international title.

"It would be understandable if Messi doesn't return to the national team," Tevez told TyC Sports.

"When you give and then you are criticised, it becomes very difficult. I've been through that and at times you don't want to go [to the national team]."
