Milutin Sredojevic urges Orlando Pirates resurgence against Bidvest Wits

Posted: 13 August 2018 Time: 15:00

Orlando pirates coach Milutin Sredojevic has called on his troops to show character and bounce back from their MTN8 setback when they face Bidvest Wits on Wednesday.

The Buccaneers succumbed to their first defeat of the season as they were eliminated from the opening cup competition at the hands of SuperSport United on Saturday evening.

With little time to recuperate before their return to action against Wits in midweek, Sredojevic will need to quickly shift his charges’ focus from the defeat to the task at hand.

While Wits will be coming into the encounter after a week-long break since their victory over Kaizer Chiefs, the Serbian tactician has called on his players to show mental fortitude as they look to bounce back to winning ways against the current log leaders.

“If you look at it, [Saturday] was our third game in seven days, but from a fitness aspect I believe we had matched and lasted [against SuperSport],” defended 'Micho'.

“Now there are two crucial jobs – physically to recover the team, and mentally to lift the players. We need to show the real character of Orlando Pirates by bouncing back with a good performance on Wednesday, and showing that a blow can come.

“You can slip on the road of the season but the power of a team is when football hits you, how strong are you to stand up and hit back with a good performance and result that we desire?”

Pirates will be looking to maintain their unbeaten record in the league, having collected four points from their opening two games thus far, but will not have it easy trying to curb the Clever Boys’ scoring habits in their early run of six goals from two matches.

Kick-off at the Orlando Stadium on Wednesday is scheduled for 19h30.
