Mamelodi Sundowns winger George Lebese says coach Pitso Mosimane has told players that places are up for grabs at the team.
Following the departures of Khama Billiat and Percy Tau, players are looking to stake a claim in the starting line-up.
Mosimane has been rotating players in the last few matches, which gives the likes of Lebese hope of getting a chance to play soon.
“He [Mosimane] has always put it out there, even before pre-season, that there are places open in the starting XI. No one is guaranteed to play, so it’s up to us as players to show that we want to play,” Lebese says.
Sundowns have done pretty well without Tau and Billiat, getting four out of six points in their first two Absa Premiership matches. They also beat AS Togo-Port 2-1 in a CAF Champions League Group C match at Lucas Moripe Stadium three weeks ago.
Lebese believes they can go on just fine without the star duo.
“Taking nothing away from the players who left … they are quality, butI think we have enough in the team. We really can’t complain, so we have to try win every game that we play.”
