Themba Zwane hopes Mamelodi Sundowns can finally win the MTN8 under Pitso Mosimane

Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Themba Zwane is confident they can finally get their hands on the MTN8 Cup.

Sundowns are yet to win the tournament with Pitso Mosimane as their coach. Winning the competition would mean Sundowns have won all domestic trophies, plus the CAF Champions League and Super Cup. In fact Sundowns last won the competition when it was known as the SAA Supa8.

Sundowns, who were beaten in the MTN8 final by Bidvest Wits in 2016, start this year’s edition with a clash at home to former winners Golden Arrows at Lucas Moripe Stadium on Saturday (15h30).

Zwane said: “I think we have been starting very slow, that’s why we always lose. But this time we have sat down with the guys to talk about it and to say ‘guys we have won all the trophies except the MTN8, so now it’s time to get this one in the bag’.”

Arrows, of course, will not be a walk in the park. They have speedy players who can cause problems for the Sundowns defence.

“I watched them against Maritzburg. They are quick and they are always looking for the counter attack. They sit back and catch you on the counter. They are quick upfront, so we have to come with a strategy on how we are going to face them. We have to win that one.”
