Cape Town City coach Benni McCarthy reckons the club are done with new signings for now

Benni McCarthy feels no need to further bolster his Cape Town City squad, and joked he is secretly hoping for illness to hit to help him with his team selection.

The Citizens brought in a number of new faces in the off-season as they look to improve on their fifth-place league finish last term, signing the likes of Keanu Cupido, Kouassi Kouadja, Peter Leeuwenburgh, Gift Links, Riyaad Norodien and Siphelele Mthembu to revamp their squad.

McCarthy says he’s more than happy with his new-look unit, and says he now faces a tough challenge in selecting his starting line-up ahead of each match.

“I already have a hell of a headache, and I pray flu comes and hits us so that my first team selection doesn’t become too difficult,” he said.

“I think now we’ve got enough players – we’ve rounded up the team nicely and added where it was most needed. There are a lot of good players out there, but I’m very satisfied with the players we’ve brought in and how they’ve made the side even more solid than we were last season.”

McCarthy feels the transfer window is closed for his team, yet he would consider a game-changing recruit, should one become available.

“For me, the bank is closed now,” he said. “If need be, we might get lucky and get another lucrative player, but it has to be someone who will change the whole dynamic of the league, not just my squad. If not, then I’m very happy with what we’ve got.”
